Most PTs are also educated in the use of psychological strategies to motivate clients.
To become a physical therapist, the individual must complete four years of college and obtain a baccalaureate degree in physical therapy.
A state licensing examination must also be passed. In some areas a collage graduate with a degree in another area may enroll in a 6- to 12-month certificate program to become a candidate for taking the state licensing examination for PTs.

The physician is primarily responsible for diagnosing and treating clients medically. The nurse is responsible for following physician’s orders or prescriptions in relation to client care. The nurse is also responsible for assessing the client for any physical and behavioral changes and relaying the information to the physician. In most situations, the working relationship between physicians and nurses is collaborative. An individual becomes a physician after many years of intensive training and education and passing a licensing examination depending on the curriculum completed.
